6 Smoothies to Try if You’re in a Smoothie Rut

I believe to be the best way to start your day is blending up a bunch of healing, healthy ingredients and gulping them down! It’s quick, easy and ensures you get a good amount of protein, healthy-fats, fiber and vitamins in your body no matter how hectic your day is. I make mine in this blender which I have had for about 8 years and it is still a staple in my kitchen. When people ask if it was worth it I say, YES! 100 x yes! It can pulverize solids to make everything from dips to nut butters, smoothies and raw juices (I have a juicer too now, but have made juice in this for years). Honestly, haven’t tried but I hear this blender can even make cake batter and hot soups. It’s more than a blender, it’s a necessity.

I’m making this post mainly so I can have my six favorite smoothie recipes in ONE place because I’ve been going to Pinterest everyday to make sure I have all the ingredients right and I have to dig through all of my Pins, get distracted by cute Pins and inevitably impulse purchase another dress with pockets.

Anyway, I was going to set this post up as a daily smoothie menu, but then I thought, there is no way I can do that to people because if you don’t have most of these ingredients already it could be cost prohibitive to go get ALL of them like, today. I built up a pantry shelf of fancy and oh-so beneficial add-ons from adaptogens like ashwaganda and supplements MCT oil over the last few years. I replace them when I need too so I never have a giant grocery bill just for smoothies. If you are starting out with your smoothie ingredients and supplements try 1-2 smoothies a week instead of a new one everyday.

Here are some of my favorite smoothie add-ons:

Ashwaganda: I’m not stressed you’re stressed…unless you are taking this because it can help lower anxiety levels and depression. Woop! It can also lower blood sugar and may increase muscle mass and strength.

MCT oil: this is a fatty acid and I love adding them to smoothies (plain old coconut oil is good for this too) because they help keep you satiated longer which is super beneficial on a busy day! MCT is derived from coconut oil but our body also processes MCTs differently, which may help burn calories.

Tocos: short for tocotrienols, is a fat-soluble relative of Vitamin E which helps hydrate your connective tissue and skin and also combats oxidative stress (which can break down the body’s natural collagen).

E3 Live / Brain On: This comes from algae and is the most nutrient dense food known to (wo)mankind. It may support a positive mood balance and give you the ability to manage everyday stress thanks to some neurotransmitter fun. Some of these benefits are also found in chocolate but you won’t gain weight with algae.

Straws: Not an add on per se but I LOVE these silicon straws and have to share. You know in California, we banned plastic straws a year or so ago and I’ve been trying every sort of straw since. These are my favorite because you get the perfect amount of smoothie for you depending on how much you bite down on the straw, they have a soft and comfortable feel and they are so easy to clean.
