You may have seen on my stories last week that I somehow talked KW in to doing some couples photos with me on the pier here in Santa Monica. If you know him, you know as an ‘Instagram Husband’ he much prefers to be behind the camera (and really views that as the lesser of two evils). He’s such a good sport, but he does not get the whole content creation part of being a part-time micro-influencer (that’s the best name I could come with for occasionally having my sh*t together and putting photos of it online) and that’s totally fine by me! I’d honestly hate if my whole life were documented (who wouldn’t?) and I would miss seeing his face if it were behind a lens all the time or worse, being posed next to mine with some sort of faux-laughter mannerism when all we really want to do is eat tacos, drink margaritas and make inappropriate jokes.
Through the good grace of Instagram, I connected with a sweet young photographer from NYC who happened to be visiting LA. She takes unbelievable photos of couples and friends that capture so much emotion and always have that beautiful golden hour light that I rarely see because I’m always getting the kids ready for bed at that time! Scrolling through her feed I didn’t find a single typical engagement photo pose (Kaare’s worst nightmare) so I knew Kaare would be down to get some couples photos provided I ensure he has one margarita for the nerves beforehand. We set up a shoot at the pier because she wanted something iconic from Los Angeles since she doesn’t typically shoot photos here. We love the beach and Pier but are usually there with kids and looking pretty frazzled, not heart-eye emoji faces with each other.
When we met her we found out she was only 19. Holy moly, how is she so talented and bold and only 19? I wouldn’t dream of reaching out to strangers decades older than me to work together or traveling across the country alone and. She was so cool and just so talented. It was so much fun shooting with her and playing on the beach like some sort of put-together woman madly in love with a handsome man. Both without looming responsibilities like lives to care for. Just filled with love. When I got these photos back I was just in awe and wanted to share some of them with you guys because she just did such a great job capturing the way we felt when we took them. Check her out and give her a follow!
