Have you seen that messaging on every trend-setter’s favorite eco-conscious clothing site where they say “being naked is the #1 most sustainable option. We’re #2” ? I’ve always been a sucker for tag lines and after studying advertising in college, I realized the profound effect they can have on our buying habits and our lives. Not just for increasing sales, but for perpetuating social and cultural movements and ingraining brands in to our lives forever. That tagline definitely worked on me and I am loyal to that brand partly because of it. (Also, partly because I feel like a stylish AF #boss when I wear it.) The more time I spend on this Earth, the more I want to preserve it and eco-friendly fashion is one of the easy ways I can do that. Fortunately, there are a lot of sustainable options out there now and I am very excited to share my current go-to brands making everyday clothes and of course, workout clothes more eco-friendly.
1. Amour Vert
I raved about my long history with Amour Vert before so I can keep this short and sweet. If you need to change out of pajamas before meetings, this place is for you. They have really cute, classic pieces that can be worn for work and play. They’re a little more grown up /sophisticated then what you’d find on Reformation, but always remain on-trend. I always go to them when I need to look polished.
2. DL 1961 Jeans
The average pair of jeans uses approximately 1500 gallons of water, an average pair of DL jeans uses just 8 gallons. Need I say more? Didn’t think so. I love their styles (they have everything from classic skinny leg every closet needs to animal print shorts which if you ask me, every closet also needs.) and have found them to run TTS.
4. Public Myth
If like me, you practically live in workout clothes you will love these ethically-made options. Public Myth sources premium sustainable materials with natural fibers like Bamboo and Organic Cotton and their pieces are so good, guys! The Banker saw me shooting these and he was yelling across the street, ‘that set is fire!’ which actually meant a lot because usually if he sees me and and a camera, he runs the other way! I love their prints (literally have never met a camo I didn’t like!) and their cuts especially the mesh cropped top. Two words: Babe. Alert. Every piece I’ve worn makes me feel sexy, fierce and strong.
3. Neu Nomads
I first discovered Neu Nomads at a sustainable fashion fair a few months back and I instantly fell in love. Their super-soft fabrics are sourced from sustainable and renewable/ natural resources. All their pieces are manufactured in factories that pay fair wages and provide medical care. I picked up this dress in two colors (red and black) and love how easy it is to throw on before a busy day and leave the house feeling comfortable and effortlessly pulled-together.
These are the four brands I have been loving lately. I really try to keep my closet pretty minimal (despite what it may look like on my feed!) both for sustainability and because we live in a small condo in LA so it’s just necessary! Even with sustainable and eco-friendly fashion there can be too much of a good thing because all new things have some impact on the environment, your wallet and your space. I hope you like some of these brands as much as I do so you can help save the Earth and look damn good doing it.
